Lockheed Martin Australia says it has expanded its Black Hawk helicopter sustainment workforce to more than 200 employees across Holsworthy in Sydney, Brisbane and Oakey, as the Australian Army’s UH-60M fleet grows.
In a news release dated 23 April 2026, the company said the industrial base supports the Army’s 19-aircraft UH-60M Black Hawk fleet, which it said has surpassed 5,000 flying hours since initial operating capability was achieved in 2024.
Lockheed Martin Australia said its logistics team in Sydney has processed more than 75,000 service transactions through its Black Hawk warehouse to support operations, while training specialists in Oakey are working with the Army to qualify and upskill pilots and aviation crew as the fleet expands.
Lockheed Martin Australia program director and general manager, Rotary and Mission Systems, Kendell Kuczma said the company’s focus was providing “dependable, rapid, and cost-effective sustainment support” to ensure aircraft availability.
Black Hawk program manager Rodahn Gibbon said more jobs were expected to be added to the program, and pointed prospective maintenance engineers, logisticians and aviation specialists to the company’s careers site.
The announcement comes as Australia continues to build sovereign sustainment capacity for key defence aviation platforms, with workforce growth and local logistics throughput becoming central measures of readiness and availability for in-service fleets.
Lockheed Martin Australia also pointed to Sikorsky’s ongoing work to modernise the Black Hawk, including autonomy-related systems and “digital backbone” capabilities intended to support future integration with unmanned aerial systems.
