Security by Design at 200 George St

Easygate_IM_200GeorgeSt_02200 George Street, Sydney is Mirvac’s latest Premium grade office tower. Designed by award winning architects Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp 200 George Street is set to be one of Australia’s most environmentally advanced and sustainable buildings with a 6 Star Green Star – Office Design v3 rating achieved, and a 6 Star As Built rating and 5 Star NABERS rating being targeted. It’s Australia’s first fully LED lit building resulting in reduced power consumption costs, more efficient lighting, lower maintenance cycles and a reduction of landfill during the life of the fitting. The building is anchored by Ernst & Young whilst Mirvac are also relocating to the new development.

Easygate_IM_200GeorgeSt_05Part of the requirement for the building was for an integrated access control system, lift destination control system and turnstile solution to limit building access to only authorised occupants and visitors whilst speeding up pedestrian movement in to and up through the building. The caveat being the turnstile design had to blend in with the overall building design.

Centaman Entrance Control worked closely with the architects, Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp, to come up with a solution. The architects penned a concept for the turnstiles and the design team at Centaman Entrance Control came up with a solution marrying together the concept with an existing EasyGate model.

Easygate_IM_200GeorgeSt_04Based on the EasyGate HG, the design was customised so the pedestals where clad in the same stone as the concierge desks and the metal work was finished in black to ensure the speedgates complemented the overall design concept for the buildings striking lobby.

Centurion EasyGate uses glass barriers of up to 1800mm in height, in conjunction with state-of-the-art optical technology to provide a high throughput security gate. The bi-directional glass barriers are designed to work in a ‘normally closed’ mode and swing open after a valid card has been presented to allow the authorised user to pass. The barriers are designed to close quickly behind the authorised person to deter tailgaters whilst the IR sensors monitor the lane to detect unauthorised entry and ensure the safety of users.

The final solution incorporated a Schindler PORT access and lift destination control system integrated with Centurion EasyGate speedgates so when staff enter the building they scan their card at the turnstile, which in turn directs them to the next available lift going to their specific floor whilst verifying they can access the
building at that specific time.
