Sydney, 10 December 2012: Macquarie Telecom (ASX: MAQ), Australia’s number one Managed Hosting and telecommunications company, today announced its intention to build Intellicentre 4 (IC4) Bunker, a security data centre in Canberra for government internet gateways and hosting.

The launch comes as Macquarie Telecom moves to invest approximately $14 million towards network, hosting and security capabilities to support the Australian Government’s Lead Agency Gateway (LAG) program. This program aims to improve cyber-security and reducing the number of internet gateways used by government agencies from 124 to 8. Macquarie Telecom has won the first of these Gateways, signing a head agreement with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) in October 2012.

“Recent developments like the Australian Government’s Internet Gateway Reduction Program highlight the rapid growth in public-sector demand for secure and resilient hosted services,” said Macquarie Telecom’s Government & Security Executive, Glen Noble. “Macquarie Telecom’s reputation for world-class data and network hosting services puts it in good stead to meet this growing demand, as already evidenced by our recent opening of Intellicentre 2 (IC2) in Macquarie Park in Sydney.” This $60m facility has been built to ASIO T4 intruder resistant, PCI (Payment Card Industry), ISO 27001 and the Uptime Institute Tier III design standards.

The first phase of the Intellicentre 4 campus will see Macquarie Telecom developing a Managed Security Data Centre in Canberra, with best-of-breed security and networking technology, to exceed ISO, DSD (Defence Signals Directorate) and ASIO specifications.  Additional Infrastructure to support these federal Government initiatives will be deployed in IC2 Sydney for increased resiliency and customer access options.   Through the protection of these Secure Internet Gateways, Macquarie will leverage its Australian owned, operated and managed facilities to support government requirements for Managed Hosting, Storage and Cloud services.

“Being based in Canberra, the Intellicentre 4 Bunker marks Macquarie Telecom’s dedicated investment in secure hosting for government, one which reaffirms our commitment to be the trusted provider connecting the public sector in Australia to the world wide web.” said Glen Noble. “We see growth in ICT investments for government as a core opportunity for Macquarie Telecom to build on its longstanding reputation for delivering hosting environments which meet rigorous public-sector standards for security and reliability, as well as increasing concerns around user privacy and data sovereignty.”

The Bunker is expected to open for business in mid 2013.
