Quest Software has released the Identity and Access Management (IAM) Index 2012

0

The Index provides a snapshot of the current and planned deployment of IAM in Australian organisations based on a survey of 253 IT decision makers from organisations in various industries including construction, education, government, health, manufacturing, retail, utilities and transport.

The Index found that 68 per cent of Australian organisations believe mobile devices and bring your own device (BYOD) puts organisations at risk. The Index also revealed that 36 per cent of organisations let employees use their own mobile devices on the network while a further 19 per cent will consider it in the future.

The Index also reveals that 52 per cent of respondents have changed their IAM approach because of the proliferation of mobile devices and BYOD.

Other key findings of the survey include:
* 10 per cent of Australian organisations have no formal identity and access management strategy
* 60 per cent of Australian organisations believe identity and access management will be more complex in 2012
* increasing complexity will lead to an increased or steady level of investment in IAM in Australian organisations with 46 per cent of respondents planning to increase investment in IAM and 51 per cent planning to keep the same level of investment
* 17 per cent of respondents are currently evaluating IAM deployment, 22 per cent are planning deployment in the next 12 months and 6 per cent are planning deployment in the next 24 months.

Ian Hodge, managing director – Australia and New Zealand, Quest Software believes that today’s increasing threat landscape has resulted in the deployment of disparate IAM solutions in organisations that require an inordinate amount of time, resources and costs to administer. While for many organisations, IAM consumes an immense amount of IT resources, it has also become more important as companies grow increasingly aware of security needs and user productivity challenges.

Hodge believes that Australian organisations need to start seriously re-evaluating and considering their IAM strategies now to deal with an increase in personal mobile devices and BYOD activity.
