The Indian Ocean Research Programme is pleased to release its latest Strategic Analysis Paper: The Emerging Strategic Importance of India’s Joint Military Exercises.

In this analysis, FDI Visiting Fellow Balaji Chandramohan assesses the future ramifications of India’s most recent joint military exercises to find that, with their emphasis on aircraft carrier operations, air defence, surface and anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue and joint manoeuvres, the Malabar exercises will take on increasing relevance, not only for the participants, but also for regional states, including Australia and Indonesia, and extra-regional actors, such as China and Russia, which have important stakes in the Indo-Pacific.

The paper can also be downloaded directly from the Future Directions International website at: http://www.futuredirections.org.au/all-publications/
